This Leica Strategy is Brilliant

Leica is striking. In July, Leica released the Leica D-Lux 8 - a compact camera that could be described as a baby Q3. This is a brilliant move: offer different sizes of the same camera for different needs. The Q3 for image quality and the D-Lux 8 for everyday photography enjoyment. Maybe they should have called it the Q-Lux.
Leica seems to be taking advantage of a camera segment that is almost completely ignored by Sony, Canon, and Nikon. Leica has an opportunity to win more photography enthusiasts while Sony, Canon, and Nikon focus on video and advanced subject tracking auto focus. Leica should turn up the heat even more.
An additional brilliant marketing move was the release of the Leica LUX -- a camera app for the iPhone. This serves as a great marketing strategy as it gets iPhone users familiar with the Leica brand. I believe Leica said that 80% of Leica camera owners use an iPhone. So not only are they giving existing Leica camera owners another option to use a Leica camera app on their iPhone, but they are also educating non-Leica owners on the Leica brand. Excellent move!
And one more thing. Leica has their Leitz phone that has a 1-inch sensor. It's probably the largest sensor you can pack into a smartphone. Leica released the third version of the Leitz phone in early 2024, however, it is only sold in Japan. Maybe they have their eyes on a larger market in the future?
Leica has been the most interesting camera brand to follow in 2024. And it seems like they are laying groundwork. So, 2025 should be even more interesting.
